Hi Bob, Thanks again for such practicle advise. Just wanted to make sure. When I said "isolate" DR and Primary site, I really meant to cut off any connection between them which is the foundation before we could start the DR exercise, this is how I understood, and it could be done as I know of. So, what you are saying, for instance, to update all ports to different VLAN would be the method on the storage level to isolate the network. However, if we could complete seperating Primary and DR network, we will then no need to change ports to differnet VLAN, and no need to worry about routing back to Production. Also, in this case, we will have a own AD server located in DR site. Am I correct?

Again, My main question is, if I did not set it up from scratch, then how could I know DNS name clu1-nfs-2-t would RR to either clu1-nfs-2-t-01 or clu1-nfs-2-t-02? Then on the other side, there is no DNS pointer to the pair of clu1-nfs-2-01 and clu1-nfs-2-02. The following is the requested output > net int show -vserver clu1-nfs-2 (network interface show) Logical Status Network Current Current Is Vserver Interface Admin/Oper Address/Mask Node Port Home ----------- ---------- ---------- ------------------ ------------- ------- ---- clu1-nfs-2 clu1-nfs-2-01 up/up x.x.23.11/24 clu1-01 a0a-314 true clu1-nfs-2-02 up/up x.x.23.12/24 clu1-02 a0a-314 true clu1-nfs-2-admin up/up x.x.18.61/24 clu1-02 a0a-310 true clu1-nfs-2-t-01 up/up x.x.30.11/24 clu1-01 a0a-308 true clu1-nfs-2-t-02 up/up x.x.30.12/24 clu1-02 a0a-308 true 5 entries were displayed.

Thanks for the link. But not sure I fully understand. The following is the result. In it, " clu1-nfs-2-t-01" and " clu1-nfs-2-t-02" can get resolve by nslookup "clu1-nfs-2-t", I understant that DNS round-robinly pickup an IP. The client can use "clu1-nfs-2-t" for altinatively using " clu1-nfs-2-t-01( x.x.30.11)" or " clu1-nfs-2-t-02(x.x.30.12)". However, adversely, the client cannot use clu1-nfs-2, only clu1-nfs-2-01 or clu1-nfs-2-02 can get resolved. So, how could I know I could assign clu1-nfs-2-t-01 to the client, and why in the other cases, I would have to use clu1-nfs-2-01 or clu1-nfs-2-02 individually? clu1::> net int show -vserver clu1-nfs-2 (network interface show) Logical Status Network Current Current Is Vserver Interface Admin/Oper Address/Mask Node Port Home ----------- ---------- ---------- ------------------ ------------- ------- ---- clu1-nfs-2 clu1-nfs-2-01 up/up x.xx.23.11/24 clu1-01 a0a-314 true clu1-nfs-2-02 up/up x.x.23.12/24 clu1-02 a0a-314 true clu1-nfs-2-admin up/up x.x.18.61/24 clu1-02 a0a-310 true clu1-nfs-2-t-01 up/up x.x.30.11/24 clu1-01 a0a-308 true clu1-nfs-2-t-02 up/up x.x.30.12/24 clu1-02 a0a-308 true 5 entries were displayed.

Thanks to Bob for your ideas. I have some more question, it may sound basic, but please help me to clear these up: 1. What network infrastructure should look like on DR site before we start to work on the storage? For instance, DR network has to be cut off from Primary site, during DR test. That means everything we said here would have to be based on this assummption. Correct? Only then, the CNAME created for production could then reference vservers on DR site. 2. To ensure the clients can mount the volumes on DR, For NFS vserver, the volulme mount points (junction paths) would have to be the same as production volumes. Correct? Please continue on sharing your idea.

Update: I have started to see the following ERROS's after NAGIOS got enabled. Can anybody please tell me if this ERROR should be ignored? or what impact is gonig to be on the storage. To me ERROR is ERROR, it should have negative impact, but, just could not tell what impact is. ERROR snmp.server.busy: SNMP daemon is busy serving a high rate of incoming SNMP queries.

vserver, volumes, CIFS shares and SM replication need to be created/set up in DR site during normal time. I am asking what we need to do during DR / DR Exercise. volume names could be different, but mount points should be the same. Correct? vserver names could be different as well, since we just need to change DNS names. Correct? volume mount points should be all the same. Correct? What about AD Domain, I think, for CIFS, AD in DR site is MUST, but if there will be no CIFS, is AD required?

We have OCUM and PM monitoring tools with 15mins polling. Now on top of theses we also added Nagios in 10 mins. So, can it add too much read traffic onto CDOT filer? Or what benefits will we have by using this 3rd party tool? Thanks!

Yes, the client IP is indeed the first hop. > net traceroute -node node02 -destination x.x.30.109 (network traceroute) traceroute to x.x.30.109 (x.x.30.109), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets 1 linx_host (x.x.30.109) 0.490 ms !Z 0.208 ms !Z 0.177 ms !Z right, this comand showed there is no switch involved. Looking forward to hear the next step. Thank you!

Well, I tried the routing group command. However, the lif and the nic on the client host are located on the same subnet, both are x.x.30.x, so, routing group should not be invovoled. Correct? Furhter, the client (linux) host CAN ping the lif through the specific nic, but not the other around, if I use "net ping..." command Whe vlan that is associating with lif has the following settings: Auto-Negot Duplex Speed (Mbps) Node Port Role Link MTU Admin/Oper Admin/Oper Admin/Oper data up 9000 true/- auto/full auto/10000 The lif connection looks healthy. Could something blocked ping on the filer?

::>net ping -lif-owner cluster1-nfs-2 -lif cluster1-nfs-2-02 -destination x.x.x.x (network ping) no answer from x.x.x.x I could not get the response back when I run the above command on the filer. Both are on the same subnet, a private network for backup. I got the lif name "cluster1-nfs-2-01" from "net int show" command. Can anything block the ping between host and the filer? there is no firewall here. Should I try something else, or is there something else I need to do before the following command could work out? It seems that I could not use IP address to replace lif name

well, It is weird. I could not find how the snpashot all the suddent starts to be scheduled. I checked auditlog.* under /mroot/etc/log, I don't see any related actions, and also command-history.log.* as well. Can anybody please shed some lights here?

Could backup software somehow create schedules? I heard that we are using snapshot backup, TSM. Could this integrated software start up SS?

All the sudden, a new snapshot schedule under the SS policy associating with a volume has been setup. As before there is only one schedule associating a volume, which will be taken once per day. Now, 2nd schedule got created, and once every 8 hours, in addtion to previous one.
We have a few people who have admin access. My question, can customer set up a snapshot policy?
What is log file should I check into to find out details about this change?
ver: 8.2.3
Thanks you.

ok. I guess, if we just leave it, it should be caught up after the network maintenance is done, as you suggested. However, since 2 hours are pretty long, and we have scheduled a replication every 30 mins, so, it might get errors after 8 attemps. So, I am wondering if suspending them first, then re-enabling, it would be more safer to ensure data consistency?

Thanks for sharing KamiIB, It is very helpful. Now, particularly, can PM or OCUM 6.1 allow me to set up thresholds on volume size, and then send out alerts? It looks to me that PM has pre-defined thresholds on aggregates, warning 85%, error 95%, I can not change thresholds for aggrs, and can not set up thresholds on volumes. Am I correct?

We will have a cheduled network maintenance between PR and DR sites for about 2 hours. If I understand correctly, the SM update should be able to catch up all increments that are lost during the maintenance. However, to be safe, I am thinking we might should manully suspend it firust by "quiece", and then enable it by "update". Will that be alright? Are there any things we need to check or perform before and after the maintenace?
