I have experience with FAS 3050, each has single controller. We use two such filers, and configured them as active/active HA 2-nodes cluster. Now, as I understand, with FAS 3200 series, for instance, FAS 3250, each has 2controllers, and one filer itself can be configured as active/active. Would you please tell me differences between these two situations and using 2 different storages, one is using two Filers, the other is using one single filer and 2 controllers? Thanks a lot for your advice in advance!

When I take a SM for SQL backups, including full backups or transaction log backups, where these backups will be stored? are they going to be stored in snapshot area of volumes for data and logs respectively? With regards the location, what these backups related to data and log valume.
I basically have two valumes and then luns, one for SQL data, and the other for the log.
This is might be a very basic question, thank you for your patience!

It has to be installed on every SQL instances server, but could be managed them on one single server. This is how I understand what you said. Thank you for your message.

This question may very well be a silly one. Could anybody please give it a shot? Thanks!

If it is only on one centralized server, then all other SQL db's need to add on the SnapManager for SQL server, is that correct? Also, other than the license for SnapManager SQL, are there any licenses need to be installed on the storage side? I know, this is a very basic question, please advice. Thank you!

I used to work on Syncsort backup / NetBackup OSSV environment, where OSSV agent can be installed on servers, then snapshots could be takenn on secondary Netapp filer, then from there DNMP off to tapes. Can NetApp work with NetBackup do the same? if not, what NetApp/Netbackup can provide for the similar backup solutions? Hope everyone who knows could share your infor. Much appreciated.

I'd like to get a concensus advise on what the real network speed should be, in order to setup a snapmirror sync mode between two sites and in a real Oracle database production environment?
as i understand, sync mode requires low latency, and quick response from the remote site, otherwise, the performance on primary production will get effected. so, in your environment what is your network speed?
My additional question is, how Snapmirror can ensure the database consisitency? since when snapshot is being taken during the snapmirror, the database is still in write mode, not in a backup mode?
Thanks for your information!

we have 2 FAS3050 nodes cluster, and running OnTap 7.3.7 version. Would you please tell me what type of OnTap is it? Is it 7-MODE OnTap, Cluster OnTape, or 7G OnTap? I am a little confused with these 3 types. If you can please clear this out for me, It'd be great helpful for me to continue on cDOT. Appreciate your help!

I am using iscsi, not fc I have iscsi-initiator-utils on Linux, but how do I know I am really using it? I have done with setting up luns on Linux server, however, the performance is very very slow. I use luns for Oracle ASM disks. thanks!

I dont have too strong experience on iscsi LUN, and may want to implement here. I need help on some basic questions: SW or HW initiator, which one is more preferred? or implemented? What is the most popular SW initiator vendors, and the same question on HW initiator? MS software initiator is free, should I use it in real business? Thanks a lot for your help!

Thanks! http://www.netapp.com/us/products/storage-systems/v3100/

We are comparing the disk performance between internal drives and NetApp luns on HPUX servers. Could anybody please let me know what commands or tools to make such comparison. I'd assume these tools/commands have to be running on HPUX. OnTap 7.3.7 HPUX 11iv3 Thanks!

we export a NFS VOLUME to a HP-UX and a Linux server. oracle uid and gid has different values on these two NFS clients. now, files are created on hpux by oracle have ownership of "oracle:dba", however, on the linux server, the ownership on the same file appears to be two values, for instance "1000:1001" for uid and gid on linux. i tried "-sec=sys,rw,anon=0,nosuid", and also a lot of other possible combinations. Is there anyway I can get this issue resolved, other than change uid and gid on one of clients? Thanks,

We are planning on writting large amount of data over HPUX nfs client, and then remount the NetApp NFS server over to a Linux client, using the same data. Can that be done? Can two different clients use the same data on NetApp? OnTap ver 7.3.2 Please advice. Thanks!
