the following is excerpted from a video clip OnCommand Unified Manager 6.0 is a revised manageability application built exclusively for clustered Data ONTAP monitoring. It doesn’t support 7-Mode infrastructure. It hosts a brand new simplified user interface for an enhanced user experience. Unified Manager 6.0 hosts an attractive UI, as well as a stable backend platform that is built from the ground up for better performance, reliability, and scalability. It is presented as a VMware vApp--as an OVA file.

well, I thought I was clear on this question. However, just read a note and saying OnCommand Unified Manger exclusively built for cluster mode, not suppport 7-mode infrastructure. What does that mean? does that mean all components, such as Operation manager, Protection Manger, Provision Manager inside OnCommand capability would not work on 7-mode? then what work on 7-mode? Please help me out here.

active file system (AFS) on "the secondary"? I thought there are only snapshots on the secondary, active file system exists only on the primary. I would like to know more granularly on what data really copied over to the secondary if they are not really snapshots from the primary. I have read the attached document tr3487, still could not understand it fully...

I basically understand how snapvault works and procedures between the source filer and destination filer, basedline has to be created first. I have one question though: Assuming I created a hourly schedule on the source volume, it will be 5 retention and between 8am-8pm. On the destination volume, I created a hourly schedule as well. Let's say I keep 10 retention and between 8am-8pm In the end of the day, I have 10 snapshots, they are respectively taken at 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1,12pm, and 11am. My question is, are these 10 snapshots are just identical copies which are taken at the same time on the source filer and transffered from the source filer? Please help to clearify this concept. Thanks!

Hi Radek and Tom, Let's forget about OSSV, as I have concluded that NetApp/NetBackup doesn't have similar thing as SyncSort/NetApp does, so, I have given up on that solution. Also, we are clear on NDMP dumps. The thing I am looking for is simply how NetApp filer is integrated with NetBackup, then NB can backup data from hosts to NA filers. In this solution, I can utilize tools on the filer provided by NetApp

Hi Tom, Would you please let me know where I can find OSSV-Plugin NetApp product and work with NetBackup? This Plugin agents on hosts would have to work with NetBackup and therefore NB can control the backup, policy and store the information in Catalog. I am sure that OSSV agent that we had was from SyncSort, not NetApp, although NetApp has its own OSSV implementation. This agent would have to be integrated with the backup software. We have given up SyncSort, so, I am looking for NetBackup approach... Thanks,

Hi, ASHWANI8HIGHS, I used two different login ID, say A and B, both of them has Administrator priviledge on the filer, so, what you indicated seems correct. However, when I log into the share from Window this moring, as either A or B, it won't even allow me to open it, there is "X" on the file (also on quite some other files as well). It seems after I logged out yesterday, and back in again, the permission got refreshed. How could I clear up this mess? Are there any way on the filer side to allow me reset the permission?

Hi Radek, You sonds pretty familiar with NetApp&NetBackup solution. I understand Netbackup could not do the same as SyncSort does. We are not looking for Replication Director, simply because we don't have the budget. We probably wanted to have a straightforward or more simpler solution to utilize D2D, and then NDMP from Disk to Tape. I understand the 2nd part. We However, what I could not figure out is how we backup data from hosts to NetApp filer, how could not be configured in NetBackup? I thought people knows NetApp may offer some ideas. We wanted to utilize tools on our existing NetApp filers, for instance, DeDup function. That's the reason we wanted to use Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, All the sudden, I can not make any changes to /etc/exports any more from mapped Window etc$. I tried to use notepad, Wordpad, and Words. After I make changes, and save it, then I do "rdfile /etc/exports" on the filer, it still shows me the old one. What did I wrong? I use to work. Also, what is /etc/exports.BAK? I remove it, still the same. I know I could do wrfile /etc/exports, but sometime I need to edit it. I have spent quite sometime, but could not figure it out.

A volume would have to be exported from a filer, and then be mounted on a Unix (Linux) server. However, if we install a service for NFS on a Window server, it could be mounted on Windows as well. My question is, is there any way similar to mount NFS share on window, I can mount a CIFS share on a Linux server? If there is, how do I do that? any documented steps? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Ashwin, I got that resolved. What I meant is to use id and password to get the access to the share when I map the share on my laptop. Just one more question, it seems my questions never end. what relationship between shares and qtree. Based on the following output, I have a share "cifsshare" created on /vol/cifstest, then any qtree exist in this picture? or is the qtree the directory I created under the share? anyway I can see the directory on the NAS? nas1> cifs shares cifsshare /vol/cifstest everyone / Full Control

Hi, After I create a brand new volume. It works now. You are absolutely right, I should not use that volume. Thanks a lot! now, I have a follow-up question. I can log into the share by using the ID and password on the NAS storage. What should I do to use one of DC ID's to log into it? since this NAS has already been included in the DC domain, If I use a DC id, I am getting the same error window as shown in my early message. This share has FULL CONTROL to EVERYONE.
