SMVI - error getting datacenter list

Hi everyone,

We have a problem with a default installation of SMVI: it installed OK, we added our 2x FAS2020 storage systems, but then when I click on the "Backup" button it seems to fail whilst attempting to read our VMWare datacenter information with an "Error getting datacenter list".

SMVI is installed on the same server as Virtual Infrastructure Center 2.5u3.

The logged on user is a full admin in VC and has local admin rights on the server.

And the user we are connecting to the FAS2020s with is the "root" account with full access.

The problem isn't in connecting to the filers, but in reading the VC information.

Full error message is below.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find much documentation for SMVI configuration on these forums yet.

Help once again appreciated,

Marc

Load the SMVI GUI. Go to the Setup panel (choose the button from the left of the screen). Make sure you have entered a VirtualCenter IP/dns name at the top of this screen. If it is blank, enter 'localhost' or 127.0.0.1 since you stated SMVI and VC are co-located. By default, SMVI does not assume localhost.

Thanks again (these forums are invaluable!).

I seem to remember giving this information during first logon/setup of SMVI, but you were right - this setting was actually incorrect. I changed it to "localhost" and now it's working fine.

Marc

We have also logged an improvement request for the next release to use

localhost as a default for vCenter server if name or address are not

explicitly given.
