these are vmware luns. I created a lun inside a volume 1:1 so if I set the snap reserve to 0, does this mean if I need to recover a lun or vm from a snapshot, it will not be possible because there is 0% space for snaps?

I initially had a snap reservation of 20% on a netapp volume. 500gb total 400gb available as a vmfs volume in vsphere. Now when set the snap reservation to 0. in netapp, it shows 500gb available. but in vsphere it still shows 400gb vmfs volume. what do I do to expand that to 500gb?

ok makes sense. when i uploaded and deleted some files and reupload some files, I noticed that the .snapshot is increasing. so is the volume on df -h -v but my snap reserve is set to 0%. so where is it finding the space for the snapshot from?

i made a clone of a vmfs lun. then mounted it in esxi then uploaded a few gigs of data into this cloned lun. then df -V -h shows that the volume is increasing in size. yes the lun clone was cloned to the same volume as the original. but snap list does not show the snapshot was changing. when would the snapshot change in size?

ok thanks. ok so I create 2 vols of 500g. also 2 luns but on one lun, it only allows me a max of 498gb. i tried lun create -s 500g -t vmware /vol/vol2/vol2_qtr/lun2 lun create: max size: 498gb but on my other vol/lun the lun is 500.1gb.

hello today df -V -h shows /vol/vol1/ 448GB 351GB 96GB 78% /vol/vol1 /vol/vol1/.snapshot 298GB 274GB 24GB 92% /vol/vol1/.snapshot so the used went down from 384 to 351. Is this the actual lun or drive seen on the host system? the snap looks like it went down too but I did not delete anything. the snap I believe are from our commvault snap backups. but we have disabled those since. Is it better to enable lun reservation? thanks a lot
