There isn't a setting I know of to disable rebuild. There is an options setting to lower the performance impact though: raid.reconstruct.perf_impact Sets the overall performance impact of RAID reconstruction. When the CPU and disk bandwidth are not consumed by serving clients, RAID reconstruction consumes as much as it needs. If the serving of clients is already consuming most or all of the CPU and disk bandwidth, this option allows control over how much of the CPU and disk bandwidth will be taken away for reconstruction, and hence how much of a negative performance impact it will be to the serving of clients. As the value of this option is increased, the speed of reconstruction will also increase. The possible values for this option are low, medium, and high. The default value is medium. There is also a special value of default, which will use the current default value. When mirror resync and reconstruction are running at the same time, the system does not distinguish between their separate resource consumption on shared resources (like CPU or a shared disk). In this case, the resource utilization of these operations taken together is limited to the maximum of their configured individual resource entitlements. I hope this response has been helpful to you. Nick - Perfstat is a very comprehensive tool for filere analysis. It runs a comprehensive list of just about every config and perfomance command we'd want to see the output of if looking for a performance problem. Configuration commands are also run on the client side. The report includes pre and post test statistics. You need to understand the output of all the commands to read the report. There is a partner tool, 'Perfstat Viewer' that will help parse the output. The quick shot tool I first pull out to look at performance is 'sysstat'. My prefered tool for clients to monitor and analyze performance is using OnCommand Unified Manager. You may wish to also look at the MyASUP feature on mysupport.netapp.com for historical performance graphing. I hope this response has been helpful to you. At your service, Eugene E. Kyhoon - I missed the reference earlier to CMPG - The Counter Masnager Performance Grapher utility. I used to have the reports run internaly when evaluating customer environs for upgrade/refresh sales. It's an excellent utility. It is based on Autosupport sending the data to NetApp, as is the MyASUP feature on the support site. I've heard that you can pull the performance data from the filer and hand it over to NetApp to run CMPG reports, but I've never had to do it. You'd want to ask your sales engineer about doing this for you. Given your secure environ, I'd be using OnCommand Unified Manager to collect the data and run reports localy.
