I used the command "lun destroy /vol/dr_vol1", it gives me the following error, and get the same if I run "lun online /vol/dr_vol1", should I then break the volume first in order to destroy the? lun online: /vol/dr_vol1 : Read-only file system

I am seeking for command line to list the highest peak latency within a time window on all individual luns in a volume. if we can not do that in one command, then what about just list the latency on an particular lun? I don't feel i can do that in GUI, so, looking for your help on CLI. THANKS!

Okay. So, should I remove the dr_lun1 from DR site then? If I remove it, the lun with the same name as the one on primary site would show up on my DR filer?

Hi nigelg1965, I admit that I am not 100% understanding you. Do I then need to create the lun on DR site, since data will be replicated anyway in volume basis? If I need to create the lun on DR site, how does the filer know dr_lun1 will be matching with lun1? it seems to be dr_vol1 has no knowledge on the relationship between dr_lun1 and lun1. You are absolutely right , that I've got myself a bit confused...

understand all your comments. However, I have one more question. let's say the volume on primary site is vol1, and dr site is dr_vol1, I created /vol1/lun1, break up the snapmirror on DR site, and then create /dr_vol1/dr_lun1. Now, my second thought is: how lun1 data is sync'ed to dr_lun1? I understand the entire vol1 including lun1 will be updated to dr_vol1, but how metadata about lun1 is recognized by dr_lun1? Hope you understand what I am saying here.

I am creating a lun on DR filer, and getting the message as titled. I understand this is because the DR volume is in restric mode,My question is following: To create a LUN, can I "vol online vol_name", and then after done with creating the lun, do "vol restric vol_name"? Is this how people would do to create a LUN under a restricted DR volume? Thanks for your inputs

if I remove aggr0, i'd have to rebuild ontap which may sound a lot. so, for now, I probably leave aggr0, and create a BIG aggr1. You hvae been very helpful. I appreciate all your messages.

3 disks from 3 different shelve have already been setup as aggr0. based what have discussed so far, I am planning on setting up 5 raid-dp, so, there will be 10 parity + 3 hot spare + 80 data = 93 disks. if I create one and only one BIG aggr1, merging aggr0 into aggr1, I will then be gaining 3x600GB. Why did you say that I'd be gaining 6x600GB?

Hi Resqme914, Thanks again for your messages. The problem is that there is aggr0 already created, and contained 3/raid-dp disks. How should I do from here? Should I blow away this aggr0, and set up a new BIG aggr0, that would require redo everything already on current aggr0, including reinstall OnTap. Isn't? Or should I just leave aggr0 as it is, and create a BIG aggr1 with rest of other disks? Any suggestion on that?

Hi nigelg1965, I just wanted to make sure I understand you correctly. So, you share our concern that backup data could compete I/O with primary data, therefore, are you saying that we should create 2nd aggregate (put 20 disks as you suggested), and this aggregate would be used for 8TB backup data, and it should not exceed 80% of usage?

Thank you for your valuble inputs. One more question. There will be about 8TB space and used for a backup/dumping data over, should we seprate this space and create 2nd aggregate for it? the consideration is that backup data has less performance requirement, and should not compete the I/O with other data onto the same aggregate. What is your opinion?

We are concerned about the source volume, not the destination volume. We got source volume full , and not able to write any data for more than a day long, so, we are not sure if the source data are still vailid. Are they? To release space, we removed the snapshot listed for snapmirror, and then initialized the data again. are we doing correct?

Hi Henry, Based on what, you could determine that we stiii have enough room to add more space? Are you setting up the threshold in Operation Manager? If you could lay it out step by step, that'd be great, and how do you determine the exact threshold figure? Do you have any document? Thanks!

Hi Henry, Thanks for your inputs. 2 more follow-up questios: How would you determine the over-provision number? and how and where would you setup the threshold?

I have mulitple volumes and then shares as well as luns under a aggregate. The detail about the aggr is listed below which is pulled out in Operation Manager. Now we are required to increase 500GB on two different volumes under the aggr. Could you please advice if we should commit the request based on the following data? The concern is that since all volumes have been set to volume gurantee=none, so, if we subscribe the space too much, it may blow up volumes at one point. Apprecaite your inputs! I have several shares under a volume, and the volume gurantee is set to none. Are there any commands to show me how much space being taken by individual shares under the volume? if there are no way on the filer, then what people usually do to get the space usage on shares? Thanks!

Due to the corrupted snapmirror, we deleted the snapshot for the snapmirror on source filer. So, I need to start the replication over, and initilize the data. Since the snapmirror snapshots are still there, what is the appropriate way to restablish the snapmirror. Do I need to delete all snapshots for the volume on DR site first? and what are next steps? what is the command to do initial data transfer? Thanks for your help soon.
